Original Manifesto

Claire De Than

Candidate for Deputy St. Helier Central

I am standing for Deputy of St Helier Central because I  have lived and worked in Jersey for long enough to know what is wonderful, and elsewhere for long enough to know what needs to change. I am offering to use my 30 years of relevant skills, experience and education to enhance the strengths and help to fix what doesn’t work. That needs to be done by working well with others, and I combine leadership experience with hands-on teamwork in everything I do.

As a senior academic who has run successful higher education institutions in Jersey, London and internationally, I have built  motivated and effective teams from scratch, been brought in to solve problems by joining established teams, and taught thousands of people how to do the same.I am qualified and experienced in many fields: law, politics, good governance, research, leadership, mediation, negotiation, representation and stakeholder engagement. I have contributed to the work of the Policy Centre Jersey, chaired the Jersey Law Commission, adjudicated for the media regulator IMPRESS, and held many charity leadership roles in Jersey and the UK. It’s clear that government and the third sector need better partnership, long term planning, and clarity.
